Welcome to the Council on Racial and Ethnic Justice web site!
The key objective of the Council is to assist with the elimination of racial and ethnic bias in our judicial system. The existence (or even the perception) of racial and ethnic bias undermines the credibility and effectiveness of our justice system. The Council therefore focuses on creating systemic changes, which strengthen the justice system. As a freestanding and separate entity in the American Bar Association, the Council focuses on fostering relationships with community groups, civil rights organizations, businesses, religious organizations and bar associations to achieve its goals. The key initiatives of the Council include:

LaVeeda Morgan Battle
Chair, ABA Council on Racial and Ethnic Justice
  • Overrepresentation of Juveniles of Color in the Juvenile Justice system;
  • Election Protection Project;
  • Campaign to Promote Racial Justice – a joint program with NLC, NBA and ABA;
  • Restoring Justice and Equity during Disasters
  • The Tulia, Texas Project
